Humpback Whale Husavik Northern Iceland

August 19th 2006

Director of Photography and High Definition specialist Michael Brennan was in the right place at the right time on August 19th in Husavik Iceland, where he shot rare behaviour of a Humpback whale breaching 300 times in three hours.

The whale made front page news in Iceland and national television RUV aired an interview with Brennan and screened some of his footage.

Icelandic cameramen declared it was fabulous action that they had never seen nor believe to have been filmed before at such close proximity.

Brennan states "The lighting was perfect, the backdrop serene, the weather calm and on numerous occasions the whale breached out of the water directly in the middle of frame and on one occasion just 40 feet in front of me.

When other boats arrived the whale jumped closer to them than has ever been experienced by locals and these shots show the enormous size of the mammal."
