ClipHD faq

Are the pictures really 1st generation quality? Unless noted otherwise yes. HDCAM begins to degrade during dubbing so we have maintained original camera quality by using the SDTI clone method of duplication if available. This is a virtually lossless method of duplication. There is no point in offering other formats as HDCAM facilities are available worldwide and it makes perfect business sense that if down or cross conversions are required that they are done locally on the format of your choice.

We are distributing camera original quality which can only be achieved by cloning to HDCAM.

I'm quite happy with 35mm film transferred to HD thank you. If you haven't noticed, the growth of HD is accelerating. For the first time there is a alternative to 35mm film but there is comparatively little HD images available. Existing libraries have built up their collection of 35mm stock shots over decades. It will take many years for libraries to transfer their stock to HD and many programs shooting HD would prefer HD originated images.

Who are you guys? ClipHD library has been put together by a dedicated team who have been working with HDCAM and digital technology since its inception. Between us we have 400 hours of broadcast, commercial and feature film credits.

What HD camera do you use? 99% was shot with the Sony Cinealta f900. Mostly with 2nd generation Canon lenses. The tape format is HDCAM, the same format as used in Star Wars Attack of The Clones and the IMAX Ghosts of the Abyss. Our clips are suitable for feature films or TV.
